Shoppers and traders are being given a festive boost with free parking on South Lakeland District Council (SLDC) operated pay-and-display car parks on Sundays in December in the run-up to Christmas.
The offer applies to the Westmorland Shopping Centre Car Park in Kendal and all pay-and-display car parks operated by SLDC in the district, with the specific exceptions of the Brewery Arts Centre and Kendal College pay-and-display car parks in Kendal and Miller Bridge car park at Ambleside.
They will offer free parking on December 2, 9, 16 and 23.
Councillor Graham Vincent, SLDC portfolio holder for the economy, said: “We are delighted to be able to spread a bit of festive cheer by supporting traders and shoppers in the district by offering free parking in our pay-and-display car parks on Sundays in the run-up to Christmas.
“While this move does have cost implications for the council due to the loss of potential revenue, we feel that it is worth it to show local traders and shop owners we are behind them and hopefully increase footfall in our shopping streets.”
