Cumbria Police are experiencing a high-volume of weather related calls this evening (28th Nov) due to Storm Diana.
Incidents included:
Road traffic incidents
Police were called at 5:44pm today (28th Nov) to the report of a road traffic incident involving a HGV having been blown over in the high winds.
The incident occurred East of Brough, just past Banksgate Junction, on the A66.
The driver suffered minor injuries.
A similar incident involving an over turned HGV subsequently occurred in this area shortly after the initial incident.
There were no reported injuries.
Police were called at 6:13pm to the report of a road traffic incident involving a HGV having been blown over in the high winds.
The incident occurred on the A66 Westbound, North Stainmore, Kirkby Stephen.
There were no reported injuries.
Due to the ongoing adverse weather, safe recovery of these vehicles is currently not possible.
Police were called at 6:09pm today to the report of a road traffic incident involving a HGV having been blown over in the high winds.
The incident occurred on the M6 southbound at Tebay on the hard shoulder.
The road was not blocked by this incident.
The driver suffered minor injuries.
Fallen trees
Police were called at 5:48pm today to the report of a tree down between Old Hutton and Kendal, near Oxenholme. Highways England are aware of this incident. There is no report of traffic being blocked due to the incident.
Police were called at 5:52pm today to the report of tree down at Manor Brow, Keswick. The tree was reported as blocking the road in both directions. Highways England are aware of this incident.
Police were called at 6:17pm today to the report of a tree down on the a592 at Newby Bridge, Ulverston, blocking the north lane.
Police officers attended the scene and removed the tree to a safe location.
There were no reported injuries or incidents from the fallen trees.
A police spokesperson said: “The conditions across Cumbria tonight have resulted in a number of weather related incident.
“To remind drivers the A66 is closed in both directions from Penrith to Bowes and it will remain closed overnight.
“The safety of the public is our main concern and we would urge those who our out tonight to take care, plan extra time for your journey and drive to the conditions in front of you. Our message is clear, drive to arrive, nothing is worth putting your life in danger.
“Storm Diana is set to continue until tomorrow. We will continue to work closely with all our partner agencies overnight and into tomorrow to keep Cumbria moving in the safest way possible.”
