Fish sellers cold calling in the Carlisle area

Cumbria Trading Standards have received reports of fish sellers cold calling in the Scaleby, Carlisle and surrounding areas.

Please be wary, do not purchase and report any uninvited fish salesmen operating within Cumbria to Trading Standards.

Fish sellers visiting Cumbria are known to engage in cold calling activities asking residents to purchase large amounts of frozen fish on the doorstep.  This fish is generally of poor quality, unrefrigerated (rancid) and short weight.  Doorstep sellers often demand a cash or cheque payment and can be very persuasive in their selling techniques.

Cumbria Trading Standards and Cumbria Police advice is simple; do not let uninvited doorstep sellers of any kind into your home.

Often these sellers prey on the most vulnerable who are less likely to refuse what may appear to be a bargain.  Please look out for such traders visiting elderly consumers who they may try and target.  For all your goods and services it is better to deal with local reputable traders operating out of fixed premises who you know and trust. If you see or know

If you or someone you know is faced with fish sellers or other cold callers please contact Trading Standards via the Citizens Advice Consumer Helpline on 03454 04 05 06 or visit www.adviceguide.org.uk
