An inquest has been formally opened into the death of a north Cumbrian mum in a two-vehicle collision between Penrith and Ullswater.
Rebecca Anne Winchcombe, 35, suffered fatal injuries while riding a motorcycle on the A592 on Friday May 8.
Her motorcycle, Cumbria coroners’ court heard this morning, was in collision with another vehicle at a location given as Snuff Mill at the junction with the B5320 in the area of Dalemain.
Miss Winchcombe was confirmed dead at 1.34pm on that date.
“The provisional medical cause of death offered is one of head and chest injuries,” said area Cumbria coroner Margaret Taylor.
Carlisle-born Miss Winchcombe, of Mardale Road in the city, was an NHS support worker with a partner and children.
Ms Taylor made a number of directions during today’s short hearing.
The coroner sought a pen portrait from Miss Winchcombe’s family, and a statement from police outlining the circumstances in which officers were called to the incident.
The statement will also address enquiries made by police and the outcome of their investigation.
Ms Taylor further sought accounts taken from witnesses — and others— at the scene; any dash cam footage along with analysis of that footage; a map showing the incident location; a report of examination of Miss Winchcombe’s motorcycle and the vehicle with which it collided; and a conclusion as to how the incident occurred.
Information has also been sought from the North West Ambulance Service.
The inquest was adjourned to September 17 when, provided all information is available, a full hearing will take place at the Workington coroners court.
