An ardent Carlisle United fan had the opportunity to meet her hero Jamie Devitt, thanks to the Professional Footballer’s Association and Bristol Street Motors.

Twenty-year-old Abbie Crosbie, who comes from a family of Carlisle United fans, made the trip to Brunton Park to present the creative midfielder with the PFA Bristol Street Motors Player of the Month.

Jamie, who is playing a key role in the Blues’ promotion campaign, earned 31 per cent of the vote in the monthly award for January.

A statement from the award organisers said: “It was clear that Devitt’s January performances – in which he scored twice – has resonated with football fans up and down the country.”

Jamie said: “Winning the award is very good, it’s the fans vote so it means a lot.”

The PFA Bristol Street Motors Player of the Month Awards recognise the achievements of the best footballers in the country’s top four divisions – the Premier League, Championship, League 1 and League 2.

The monthly winners are voted by the public after a panel selects a shortlist of six players from each league.

Abbie said: “The whole family are massive Blues’ fans and we go to as many matches as possible.

“It was brilliant to meet Jamie and present him with his award. He’s having a brilliant season and although we’re just outside the play-off places I think we can do it and I’m dreaming of a trip to Wembley in May.”

Liz Cope, chief marketing officer at awards partner Vertu Motors plc – parent company of Bristol Street Motors – added: “We are delighted to continue to support the PFA Bristol Street Motors Fans’ Player of the Month award.  It’s heart-warming to have the opportunity to enable fans to meet their heroes and I am delighted that Abbie enjoyed her experience.”

Voting for the PFA Bristol Street Motors Fans’ Player of the Month Awards for February is open, fans can vote here… https://www.bristolstreet.co.uk/pfaawards/.
