Windscale will start their Wearside League season with a home game against one of the best teams in the competition.

Gateshead Leam Rangers are the first visitors to the Falcon Complex on Wednesday, August 5 after the official league start is the weekend previous with games on July 31 and August 1.

Windscale don’t play on the first two Saturdays of the new season as their second game is also mid-week, Wednesday August 12 when they entertain South Moor.

They then have three successive away games – Ferryhill (August 15), Shotton (August 22) and Washington (August 25) before completing the first month at home to Easington on August 29.

Windscale played another friendly in mid-week, beating County League side Cockermouth 5-3.

They had 22 players available and were able to play two different 11s in each half, and were particularly effective in the opening 45 minutes when they were strong and controlled possession to build a 3-0 lead.

In the second-half they were still able to dominate possession and seven minutes from the end were leading 5-1.

But they seemed to lose concentration and a bit of shape and conceded two late goals through mistakes.

Cred had to go to Cockermouth as they never gave in and took their chances really well

Windscale manager Stephen Fawcett said: “As usual plenty of pros and cons to weight up.”

They play a friendly against Whitehaven of the West Lancashire League on Tuesday.

The Windscale goal-scorers were Kieren Fraser (2), Owen Woodburn, Ross Leeson and Travis Fyfe.
