Drivers are to get smoother and safer journeys along the A595 Parton to Lillyhall bypass in Cumbria – thanks to a £458,000 Highways England roundabouts project.
All three roundabouts along the bypass – at Dobies, Toll Bar and Howgate near Distington – are to benefit from resurfacing and new road markings in a month-long overnight project starting next month.
Resurfacing material which has a longer lifespan is being used in the project to help minimise future disruption to road users.
Highways England project manager William Paterson said: “The project will provide a safer and smoother experience for everyone using these junctions. The roundabouts are being resurfaced using a material called hot rolled asphalt. This will provide a longer lasting surface which will hopefully last twice as long as the current material.”
The resurfacing will be carried out under a series of overnight road closures – between 7pm and 6am each night – with local diversion routes and temporary traffic lights.
The work starts on Tuesday 7 May and is due to be completed by Tuesday 4 June.
As part of the Government’s £15 billion road investment strategy, large sections of the motorway and major A road network are being resurfaced. Since April 2015 more than 4,000 miles of the network have been resurfaced – with over 1,000 miles alone this financial year – meaning safer and smoother journeys for drivers and other road users up and down the country.
