The Lake District National Park’s Local Plan Consultation recently won two hotly contested awards at the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) building in London.

The UK Planning Awards span 26 categories and are judged by a panel of 25 industry experts.

The Lake District National Park Local Plan Consultation won the award for Stakeholder Engagement in Planning and also the coveted Editors’ Award which is given to the most impressive overall entry.

Judge and editor of Planning, Richard Garlick, said: “At a time when effective stakeholder engagement in planning is particularly important, the national park authority’s entry is a worthy winner of this award.”

Hanna Latty, Team Leader, Strategy and Planning Policy with the Lake District National Park Authority said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have won both of these awards at such a high profile event.

“The Local Plan consultation has been a great success in terms of public engagement. We’ve had the highest ever number of responses from a much more diverse audience. We were pleased to reach younger people, which is really important as they are the residents who will be most impacted by the 15 year local plan.”

The consultation included a bespoke interactive web-mapping tool, videos featuring residents and developers of recently completed schemes to show the real-life impact of planning policy, all of which were highly commended by the judges.
