Carlisle Station

Damage to the overhead wires, caused by a tree falling on the overhead line equipment, between Carlisle and Lockerbie / Kilmarnock is resulting in all lines being blocked.

Train services running between these stations may be cancelled or delayed by up to 90 minutes. Major disruption is expected until the end of the day.

Roads around Carlisle station are reported to be gridlocked.

Caledonian Sleeper customer advice:

Tonights Edinburgh / Glasgow – London Euston service has been cancelled as the result of wheel damage sustained on the train during last night’s service.

Passengers who still wish to travel tonight will be provided a replacement bus service due to depart Glasgow Central at 23:40 and Edinburgh at 23:40.

Virgin Trains customer advice:

Virgin Trains services will terminate and start at Preston. Glasgow Central, Edinburgh, Lancaster, Oxenholme Lake District, Penrith North Lakes and Carlisle will not be served.

To help with your journey, tickets will be accepted on TransPennine Express services via any reasonable route.

A very limited rail replacement bus service is in operation between Carlisle and Scotland.

Customers who choose not to travel today can use Virgin Trains tickets dated today for travel tomorrow, Thursday 13 June.  Alternatively you can get a full refund for your unused ticket from where you bought them. You can check www.virgintrains.co.uk/refunds/ for more information.

ScotRail customer advice:

The service between Newcastle / Carlisle and Glasgow Central is running only between Dumfries and Glasgow Central.

3 buses are currently running from Dumfries to Carlisle. 2 buses will run from Carlisle to Dumfries from 13:45.

If you are travelling directly between Carlisle and Glasgow Central, you may board the buses operated by Virgin Trains.

TransPennine Express customer advice:

To help with your journey, tickets will be accepted on the following services:

  • TransPennine Express services between Manchester and York
  • LNER services between York and Scotland
  • Virgin Trains services via any reasonable route

Replacement buses have been requested for Carlisle, Glasgow Central and Edinburgh.

Replacement buses are shuttling between Carlisle and Edinburgh in both directions.

Other disruption information:

There is also major disruption on the East Coast Mainline, meaning it is currently not possible to travel to / from Edinburgh via the East Coast Mainline.
