In late July, over 100 fundraisers took part in a 24 hour running relay challenge to help the care, support and activities provided at Eden Valley Hospice.

On Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 July the DH Runners Charity 24 Hour Relay took place with runners each completing a 5km loop. Runners began their lap in Denton Holme before heading to Cummersdale and returning to the starting point along Dalston Road.

Kathryn Holliday said: “DH Runners decided to choose Eden Valley Hospice as the club charity of the year. You can see from the amazing support we have received from so many runners within our club that Eden Valley Hospice is close to many of our hearts.  We had an amazing 24 hour hours and are delighted to raise £1,232.33.”

During the 24 hour challenge 101 people took park completing 186 laps and running 902 miles in total. Many people completed more than one lap of the course with each running donating £5 per lap to Eden Valley Hospice. In addition to the standard laps of the course, DH Runners also included a Family Lap and a twilight Memory Lap.

Lucy Jackson said: “The Memory Lap allowed the runners taking part to think about families and friends who are no longer with us.  Many of us running had personal experience of using the hospice and in particular I thought about my Grandad who passed away in Eden Valley Hospice last year.  Our family received the most wonderful care and support at that time and taking part in this lap was extra special because running was such a massive part of my Grandads life.”

The money raised by all the fundraisers who completed a lap, or more, will help Eden Valley Hospice to provide the highest standards of care, support and activities to local people with life limiting illnesses. All the charity’s care and compassion is extended the patients’ family, friends and carers.

Natalie Bingham, Corporate Relationship Coordinator at Eden Valley Hospice, said: “We would like to say a special thank you to DH Runners for organising this wonderful fundraising event in aid of Eden Valley Hospice. It was fantastic to see so many people taking part in the challenge over the 24 hours, with each runner helping the care we provide at the hospice.”
