stethoscopeThe annual Healthcare and Blue Light careers event will take place next month to help young people in north Cumbria make informed decisions about their future.

The event, now in its fourth year, sees health and care professionals, emergency services and education providers come together under one roof to showcase the range of careers on offer and training routes into them.

Students from year 11 and above across schools, further education and higher education will be able to ask professionals and educators questions, try out equipment and practical tasks, and attend workshops to find out more about a wide range of careers.

Mandy Annis, Recruitment Manager at Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust and North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “We want to make sure that young people are aware of the opportunities available to them within the healthcare, emergency services and education sectors and this event will do just that.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity where young people can speak to professionals already working in these areas to find out more about information on potential careers and the options available.

“We’re really looking forward to the next event, we always get such positive feedback from schools and students. This year we’ve already received the highest number of confirmed attendee’s we’ve ever had; the event just keeps growing!”

This is the third year that the event will be held at the University of Cumbria in Carlisle. Professor Brian Webster-Henderson, Pro Vice Chancellor (Health)/Professor of Nursing at the University of Cumbria, said: “We’re excited to be welcoming more than 800 schools pupils to our Fusehill Street campus in Carlisle for this fabulous event. This key event gives all visitors, including members of the public who are invited to come along from 3pm, a real opportunity to talk directly to those who make an impact on all our lives, working in a range of careers in hospitals, the community or emergency services and discuss the diversity of education and training opportunities available with providers who deliver the relevant courses and progression routes for learners to succeed.

“Cumbria has some amazing opportunities and it is fantastic that, as we look to launch our new Institute of Health this autumn, we’re once again working together with different organisations to give our young people and others the best support to explore their future options.”

Schools and colleges have been invited to attend during school hours and have already secured places for more than 800 students. In addition, from 3.00-4.00pm the event is open to the public and young people are encouraged to come along, on their own or with parents or carers.

The Healthcare and Blue Light careers event takes place on 12 September 2019 in the Sports Centre, University of Cumbria, CA1 2HH.
