‘Grasmere Guzzler’ 2019: Full-line up revealed

The Hoojamamas

Almost 30 musical acts from across Cumbria – and beyond – will take to the stage at the three-day ‘Grasmere Guzzler’ Beer & Music Festival next month, Friday 6 to Sunday 8 September 2019.

The full line-up has been announced for this year’s free event, which will take place in the grounds of Tweedies Bar & Lodge in Grasmere.

Headline acts across the three nights will include Glasgow-based The Hoojamamas, who have recently played on the main stage at the Eden Festival to crowds of thousands.

Mickey 9s

Another favourite from the Scottish music scene, the irreverent 4-piece Mickey 9s, also feature. And top of the bill on the Sunday night is South Cumbria’s own 9-piece ska band and self-proclaimed ‘social experiment’ Bad Transmission.

There will be plenty of other home-grown talent with Whitehaven’s Dean Newton Trio, Furness collective Valparaíso, Kendal’s Paddy Rogan Band and Band of Captives from Keswick all set to entertain revellers. Musicians are also travelling from around the North West and Yorkshire to join the line-up.

Now in its 13th year, the Grasmere Guzzler is again expected to welcome visitors from all corners of the UK to enjoy live music and to sample a choice of more than 100 craft beers.

It will be all hands to the pump, as Tweedies draft in extra staff to serve an estimated 8,000 pints in a specially-erected marquee over the three days.  The free event will also include a massive BBQ, alongside an array of food stalls including veggie options and an outdoor pizza oven to feed people’s hunger.

The free family-run event has become a Cumbrian institution since it started in 2007, with just 8 sampling ales and a few friends in the beer garden with a single guitar.

Laura Goodall, from Tweedies Bar & Lodge, says, “We’re so excited about this year’s Grasmere Guzzler. Not only is it a great place to enjoy a great mix of musical talent – including some fabulous acts from the Cumbrian music scene – but it really brings people together.  We are seeing more and more younger people and families coming along, because they love the whole weekend’s informal atmosphere and laid-back vibe. There’s a real sense of community and we are looking forward to another special and unique event.”
