Richard Shield, Director of Residential & Commercial Development, H&H Land & Estates

One of the North’s leading firms of Chartered Surveyors H&H Land & Estates announces the appointment of new Director of Residential & Commercial Development.

As the company further expands its property services portfolio into planning and development, H&H Land & Estates has announced the appointment of Richard Shield as Director of Residential and Commercial Development. In this newly created position for the company, Richard will work closely alongside Managing Director Colin Tomlinson and Director David Quayle and the rest of the H&H Land & Estates team across their 9 offices.

Richard brings with him a wealth of planning and development experience.  Trained as a land agent and MRICS qualified, he is a registered valuer and moved into commercial agency and development work in 2004, where this has been his focus for the last fifteen years.  His specialisms lie in sales and acquisitions, development appraisals and viability, land promotion and realising the potential of small, medium and large-scale developments. This ranges from small plots of land up to large-scale land and estates for a range of private and public sector clients.

From a farming family, Richard grew up on the North Yorkshire and County Durham border where he still lives. Prior to this new appointment, he was a Partner at Cushman & Wakefield in Newcastle building up the successful planning and development department for the North East and has historically worked for DTZ, Smiths Gore and Savills.

This appointment comes as part of a strategy for H&H Land & Estates to grow their development offering across the North East, North West and Cumbria. As a result, Richard will be hitting the ground running and commenting on his appointment said: “This is a great opportunity and H&H Land & Estates is a progressive organisation. Working across all of the geographical areas in which we operate, I am looking forward to developing this specialist area for the company and to talking to clients to understand their needs and assessing sites as to the opportunities they offer.

“It is well documented that we have not been building enough homes in the UK for decades and so I have a particular interest assisting clients in bringing forward land to provide much needed housing, having previously worked on several sites capable of delivering between 1,000 and 2,000 units coupled with adjoining employment land allocations to provide accompanying economic investment and resulting job opportunities.”

H&H Land & Estates is one of the leading firms of independent rural property advisors operating across the North of England and Scottish Borders. Its land agency department advises businesses and the agricultural sector at all levels, with services including farm business advice, estate management, farm sales, landlord and tenant matters, utility work, land management and more recently focussing on planning and development.

Commenting on Richard’s appointment, Colin Tomlinson, Managing Director of H&H Land & Estates, explained why this is a key appointment for the business: “We are thrilled that Richard has joined the company bringing with him his expertise and strong track record within the industry.  This new role will certainly underpin the work being done by David Quayle and his team in Durham and our teams in the North West and Cumbria.

“With such in-depth industry knowledge, I would encourage landowners to get in touch about their development needs.  Given the current economic and political circumstances, it is more important than ever that landowners consider various opportunities.  Taking property and planning advice is the first step towards realising the best potential for their assets and building themselves a secure future.”
