Workington Magistrates Court

A WOMAN has appeared in court accused of fleecing her husband-to-be and his friends out of more than £10,300, and faking stag do flight bookings.

Rachel Doran is alleged to have committed dishonesty crimes amid plans for a pre-wedding trip to Ibiza by her former fiancé, Chris Mahone, and around 30 pals and family members in September, 2017.

Doran, 31, faces two charges.

One alleges she stole £10,330 cash, belonging to 29-year-old Mr Mahone and other members of the stag party.

A second charge, brought under the Forgery and Counterfeiting Act, alleges that she made a “false instrument”, namely fake flight booking documentation for the Ibiza trip, intending that Mr Mahone should accept it as genuine.

It is alleged that offences were committed between September 13, 2015, and September 7, 2017, at Cleator Moor in Cumbria.

Doran, of Lamb Lane, Egremont, appeared at North and West Cumbria Magistrates’ Court in Workington this morning (FRI).

During a hearing lasting less than 10 minutes, she spoke to confirm her identity, address and nationality, and to agree she understood the allegations she faces. When asked by the clerk whether or not she wished to indicate a plea to the charges, Doran twice replied: “No plea.”

After listening to an outline of the alleged offending from prosecutor Pamela Fee, magistrates decided the case was so serious it should be sent to Carlisle Crown Court.

Doran is due to appear in front of a judge at the crown court on October 28. In the meantime she was granted unconditional bail.
