L-R: Councillor Elizabeth Mallinson and Suzanne Garbarino-Danson, Jigsaw Clinical Lead

Cumbria County Council’s campaign to build Cumbria’s biggest jigsaw has raised over £1,800 to help, the care, support and activities provided at Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice.

Earlier this year Councillor Elizabeth Mallinson launched a fundraising appeal to help raise money in aid of the Carlisle based charity. The council invited schools, libraries, care homes, community groups and individuals to design their own giant jigsaw piece, based on the theme of Love Cumbria.

Cllr Elizabeth Mallinson said “I am absolutely thrilled to handover such a fantastic amount to Jigsaw who do such important work. I would like to say a special thank-you to James Cropper Plc for donating the jigsaw pieces, Story Homes for their kind donation as well as a huge thank-you to all the schools, care homes, libraries, communities and individuals who got involved, donated and made Cumbria’s Biggest Jigsaw such a success.

“Your generosity of time, care and money will make such a massive difference to the lives of many children and young adults with life limiting illnesses, not to mention their family and friends.”

The kindness and generosity of everybody who took part in the campaign has helped to raise £1,869.20 in aid of Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice. People were encouraged to make a donation and in return received a design your own jigsaw piece pack as they took part in the Cumbria’s Biggest Jigsaw campaign.

Natalie Bingham, Corporate Relationship Co-ordinator said: “We are truly delighted with the total amount of money raised from this unique fundraising initiative. Not only did it help raise much needed funds for the hospice, it also helped raise awareness of Jigsaw across Cumbria. It was lovely to see so many organisations get involved with this fantastic campaign!

“Thank you, from everybody at Jigsaw. You are helping make a huge difference to children and young adults with life limiting conditions.”
