Two arrested following Maryport robbery

Cumbria Police have arrested two people on suspicion of robbery after a report of a man having had his car stolen.

Police were called at 6.45am today (11 Dec) to a report of a man being the victim of a robbery inside an address in Eaglesfield Street in Maryport during which a man and a woman took his car keys and stole his car – a Renault Clio.

The car was recovered shortly after 8am, abandoned, in the vicinity of the Roman Museum.

A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “A 32-year-old woman was arrested nearby in The Promenade. She is currently in police custody having been arrested on suspicion of burglary, robbery and unlawful taking of a motor vehicle.

“A police helicopter was called in to assist in the search and a 32-year-old man was also subsequently arrested in a nearby field. He is in police custody having been arrested on suspicion of robbery and unlawful taking of a motor vehicle.”
