A search was launched last night after reports of two young people being cut off by the tide in South Cumbria.
Furness Coastguard was called just before 10pm yesterday, Friday July 24, with concerns that the youngsters were in difficulty in the Humphrey Head area.
The team attended alongside Arnside Coastguard Rescue Team and Bay Search and Rescue.
Crews spoke with the person who called 999 to get a description of the two young people, their last known location and their suspected direction of travel.
The area was busy at the time due to visitors staying at the Haven Caravan Park in Flookburgh and a Steam Gathering at the nearby airfield.
Two coastguard teams, supported by Bay Search and Rescue, carried out a thorough search of the sea wall and embankment at Flookburgh and from Humphrey Head to Humphrey Head Point.
Bay Search and Rescue deployed a drone using thermal imaging to search the marsh, gullies and other areas that were difficult to access.
No one matching the description was found during the search and nobody had been reported missing to the caravan park, the airfield or Cumbria police.
Following consultation with the HM Coastguard Rescue Co-ordination Centre at Holyhead, the search was stood down at 1.15am.
Furness Coastguard said the incident was a false alarm with good intent.
It added: “The caller did exactly the right thing by dialling 999 and asking for the Coastguard.
“We’d always rather investigate a report and find no one in danger than risk someone not receiving help when they need it.”
The team also thanked site security at the caravan park for enabling access and Bay Search and Rescue for their support.
