Lakes College learners and staff celebrated in festive fashion whilst raising funds and awareness for important local charities at their ‘Lakes Christmas’ event.
The festive fundraiser was packed with exciting Christmas events and activities including a Christmas market, fancy dress and decorating contests. The college was joined by Learning Land Nursery with the children putting on an adorable mini performance of carols and seasonal songs. The event was organised to collect donations and raise money for local charities the North Lakes Foodbank and the Whitehaven Foyer.
Generous donations of food and items were brought into Lakes College by staff, learners and local companies including Dobies Charitable Trust, The Entertainer Workington, Haighs Butchers, Westmoreland Services / Tebay Hotel, The Tractor Shed, Darren Hewer from Tesco Workington, Bannatynes Carlisle and Better – The Wave Maryport.
A total of £930 was raised throughout the day which will go toward helping those in need this Christmas.
Helen Branthwaite, lead organiser of the Lakes Christmas event, commented, “We absolutely love putting together events that involve everyone within the college, and this one was exceptional. It was amazing to see all our staff and learners come together to help raise money for such important local causes and our community. We’re so proud of everyone and hope everyone has an amazing Christmas!”
