Carlisle residents are being given the chance to have their say on the 2020/21 draft City Council budget.

Carlisle City Council’s Executive Committee is consulting with local residents, businesses and organisations about next year’s City Council draft budget.

The council has successfully achieved or identified over £9million in transformational savings since 2010/11 and now have a solid financial base in order to set their 2020/21 budget. A revised savings requirement has been calculated of a reduction from £1.130million to £0million in 2020/21; £1million in 2021/22 increasing to £1.850million in 2023/24.

Leader of Carlisle City Council, Cllr John Mallinson, said: “This balanced budget continues the focus on the priorities of the Council: Borderlands Inclusive Growth Deal, St. Cuthbert’s Garden Village and the Sands Centre Redevelopment. It is a sensible budget that puts this Council in a good position to take the priorities and services forward, while the future funding for local government is clarified by the new national government.”

Deputy Leader of Carlisle City Council, Cllr Gareth Ellis, added: “The financial strategy, detailed in the budget proposal, will ensure that the Council continues to set a robust budget. This budget proposal to Council is the culmination of months of work through the budget process, I would like to thank all the officers and members who have contributed to this work.”

Comments will be considered as part of the ongoing budget process and will be assessed by the Executive at their meeting on Wednesday, 15 January. The final budget proposals will be discussed at Carlisle City Council’s Full Council on Tuesday, 4 February 2020.

A copy of the draft Executive budget is available to view at the Civic Centre’s Customer Contact Centre and is also available online by visiting http://www.carlisle.gov.uk/Council/Council-and-Democracy/Budget
