Police are investigating an incident in which a woman was assaulted in what is believed to be an unprovoked attack in Milnthorpe.

It happened at about 9.55pm on December 20 2019 at Grisleymires Lane, at the junction with Church Street.

The woman, aged in her forties, sustained serious facial injuries after approaching a group of males of unknown age.

She was assaulted by members of this group, who had been acting suspiciously. They were wearing balaclavas while in a car.

Police are keen to trace what is described as a small hatchback, possibly a blue Vauxhall Corsa.

A separate driver, a woman, was flagged down by the victim following the assault and police would also like to speak with her.

Officers are appealing for anyone who may have been in the area between 9pm and 10pm to come forward if they can recall seeing a group of males acting suspiciously.

Police are also appealing for anyone who may have dashcam footage of the incident to contact them.

Anyone with any information is urged to contact PC 2666 Adam Roberts on 101, referring to incident 278 of December 20.

Police would also like to remind people that while instances such as this are rare in our county, any suspicious people, vehicles or incidents should be reported to police without delay.
