A MAN has appeared in court accused of involvement in a massive county lines drugs supply plot targeting Carlisle users.
Louis Simpson, 26, faces one charge. This alleges that, between June 1, 2018, and November 23 that year, he conspired together with another to supply a quantity of class A heroin and crack cocaine.
Simpson entered no formal plea to the allegation which he appeared at North and West Cumbria Magistrates’ Court in Carlisle earlier today (TUES) having been arrested by police the previous day.
However, District Judge Gerald Chalk heard that a plea of “not guilty” was being indicated by the defendant.
Simpson is accused of involvement in an illegal enterprise masterminded by a Liverpool-based organised crime group to supply the class A drugs in Carlisle on a “commercial basis”. The court was told police regarded the plot, which Simpson’s lawyer, Thomas Keaney, said he denied being part of, as “one of the biggest cases to hit Cumbria”.
Today’s hearing was adjourned and Simpson, of Walton Road, Liverpool, will next appear at Carlisle Crown Court on March 16. In the meantime he was remanded in custody by District Judge Chalk.
