Theatre by the Lake is delighted to be hosting an Introduction to Composing two-day workshop with The School for Wise Children in Keswick on 18 –19 April.
The School itself, led by Emma Rice and her award-winning collaborators, offers various training courses, work placements, industry masterclasses, paid internships and ongoing mentoring for theatre makers.
Original music is at the heart of everything that Wise Children does; from the melodic chorus of schoolgirls in Malory Towers, to the show-stopping tunes of the darkly fabulous show Wise Children.
Successful applicants will take their first steps into composing original music for theatre in the heart of the stunning Lake District. Over the weekend of 18 – 19 April, Wise Children’s Composer, and Director of Music, Ian Ross will guide participants through the role of the Composer. Participants will learn how to find inspiration in a scene, work on an idea in a rehearsal room setting and polish their creation ready for an audience. The weekend will arm aspiring composers with tools and processes to help them on the path to composing for theatre.
This course is for ages 18 and over. Applications must be received by 5pm Monday 13 March. This weekend specialism costs £170, including accommodation. As with all School for Wise Children courses at least 50% of places on this course will be offered for free.
For those keen on being inspired by live theatre, Malory Towers is running at Theatre by the Lake from 27 March – 18 April; this course takes place on the show’s final weekend. The production is the original Girl Power story, reimagined for the 21st Century and set to sensational live music and breathtaking animation. A glorious celebration of friendship and finding yourself, this is a show for girls, boys and all us grown up children who remember the joys – and pains – of growing up.
