Cumbrian businesses rally behind Rett Syndrome charity ball

More than twenty Cumbrian businesses are throwing their support behind a special charity event taking place later this month, to raise awareness of Rett Syndrome – a neurological condition which affects previously healthy girls between their first and second birthdays.

The Lakeland Motor Museum’s Operations Manager Chris Lowe’s daughter Molly has the condition, which has robbed her of the ability to speak or use her hands as well as presenting other challenges. Molly speaks using an eye gaze computer and attends Grange Primary School where she is helped by many friends.

Molly enjoys horse riding with Riding for the Disabled and also loves cake and ice-cream, which resulted in her meeting 17 year old Emma Walmsley, of the recently opened ‘Emma’s Café’ on Grange promenade.

Eager to help, Emma arranged a charity ball and raffle to help fund research into possible treatments and ongoing studies to find a cure for the condition.

Chris says “Emma is very hardworking and on top of running her own café she has spent the past year arranging this charity event.  It is humbling when people put themselves out to support a cause that doesn’t directly affect them, and I’d like to thank Emma for her amazing efforts.”

Emma is also delighted to report that the 200 tickets for the Reverse Rett Charity Ball on March 21 at the Cumbria Grand Hotel have almost sold out. Furthermore, raffle tickets are available from Chris at the Lakeland Motor Museum, with prizes kindly donated by many hotels, pubs and attractions.

Emma and Chris would like to thank all those attending and the following businesses for their generous raffle prizes.
