Four Cumbrian MPs have supported a bid which has been submitted to the Department for Transport’s Ideas Fund.
They are Trudy Harrison MP, Dr Neil Hudson MP, Mark Jenkinson MP and John Stevenson MP.
The bid, that if successful would see the reopening of the Penrith to Keswick railway line, has been submitted by Allerdale Borough Council in conjunction with CKP Railway Plc. The bid has received support from the Cumbrian LEP, Cumbria Tourism and Eden Borough Council.
Speaking on behalf of the four MPs, Mark Jenkinson said: “Improved transport in Cumbria is very important and I strongly support the Penrith to Keswick line being reinstated. This railway line will not only benefit residents across Cumbria, providing greater transport options, it will also join up Cumbria for tourists, giving a direct route from Carlisle Lake District Airport to the Lake District.
“Cumbria is a vast county however as MPs we are determined to improve transport infrastructure to realise the county’s potential.”
