A local man completed more than 900 circuits of his house to help the care and support provided at Eden Valley Hospice during these challenging times.

Inspired by Captain Tom Moore, John Treeby took on his own 2.6 challenge on Sunday 26 April as he walked 26 miles around his own house.

John, 61 from Carlisle, explained, “I’m so glad to be able to help Eden Valley Hospice with fundraising during the crisis, as a local charity it is vital that all Cumbrians pull together to help.

“Four weeks ago I was furloughed from work at a warehouse in Kingstown and decided not to venture out at all as I received a letter from my Medical Practice. So, I started from day one to walk around the house instead of going out.

“Last Sunday was supposed to be the London Marathon and because I had been hugely inspired by Captain Tom Moore doing his walk I decided to do a fundraiser on Sunday. I got up early in the morning, it was freezing, and started to walk around the house, 912 circuits and 26.05 miles later I finally finished at 8pm the same day.”

The money raised by John in aid of Eden Valley Hospice will allow the local charity to provide care and support to local people with life limiting conditions. This care and compassion is extended to all the patients’ family, friends and carers.

John continued, “My feet have been sore and blistered since but worth all the pain. My family and friends have been incredibly supportive, all donating. I had set a target of £250 so have passed that now, the total now stands at £636. Amazing considering these difficult times.”

John’s fundraising total now stands at over £700 in aid of the hospice, you can still sponsor John at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/john-treeby26.

As key workers, both the clinical and support staff teams at Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice are here for the local community. The hospice is doing all it can during these times to continue to provide care to those in need, whilst following strict guidelines.

Eden Valley Hospice and Jigsaw is open and continuing to provide care and compassion to local people with life limiting illnesses. The hospice is there for the local community and still supporting the NHS.
