A man living at an address on Bath Terrace, Penrith, has appeared from custody at North and West Cumbria Magistrates Court in Carlisle.
Romanian national, Adrian Sofroniciu, 28, pleaded guilty to a charge of occasioning actual bodily harm on his ex-partner on Sunday May 3rd.
District Judge Gerald Chalk was told by prosecutor John Moran how the defendant “slapped and punched his ex repeatedly and one punch was so-hard she fell to the ground”.
There were other people in the house and they came to the victim’s assistance, Sofroniciu then went into the kitchen and got hold of a knife and motioned towards her in a stabbing motion the prosecutor told the judge.
The victim suffered bruising to the face arms and legs, the judge was told how the victim alleged Sofroniciu had threatened to “kill her and burn the house down,” the judge was told there had been domestic violence incidents between the couple previously.
District Judge Chalk told Sofronicia his sentencing powers were inadequate, he was remanded in custody to appear at Carlisle Crown Court on June 1, a probation report was ordered for that day.
