Residents at Newlands Care Centre in Workington donned their gardening gear for National Gardening Week that took place between 29th April and the 5th of May.
National Gardening Week was launched a number of years ago by the Royal Horticultural Society, with the aim of becoming the country’s biggest celebration of gardening. A popular British celebration, Newlands Care Centre joined together to plant flowers and herbs around the home and enjoyed some time in the garden with the birds. Staff and residents planted seasonal, colourful flowers and herbs and planted some tomatoes to tend to throughout the summer. Many residents thoroughly enjoy being out in the garden surrounded by nature and enjoying the sunshine.
Launched a number of years ago by the Royal Horticultural Society, National Gardening Week brings together gardeners, horticulture societies and clubs from around the country to share their passion for gardening and their love of plants. A key initiative at Barchester, National Gardening Week kicks off the Barchester in Bloom awards, which recognises care homes throughout the company that have unique and interesting gardens and outside spaces.
Kim Whelan, General Manager at Newlands Care Centre said: “Our garden is a much loved space at our home, and residents really enjoy the peaceful green spaces in the summer when the flowers are in bloom.
