Police would like to make members of the public aware about the dangers of jumping off bridges into water, after a man jumped into the water from the suspension bridge in Rickerby Park yesterday.
A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “The man was taken to the Cumberland Infirmary via ambulance with a suspected broken ankle.
“Officers have also been made aware of people jumping into the river off of White Bridge at Dalston.
“Due to the recent dry weather the water may be a lot shallower than it appears and if you jump off the bridges, then you are putting yourself at risk of a serious injury.”
