Large Barrow AFC emblem installed in Coronation gardens following long-awaited promotion

AS A WAY of celebrating the success of Barrow AFC’s promotion back into the Football League, a large emblem of the club has been installed in the centre of town.

Decorated with beautiful white begonias, the badge was installed by Barrow Borough Council in the area of the Coronation Gardens, on Abbey Road, to congratulate the football club on its landmark achievement.

The Bluebirds sealed their promotion after an agonising wait due to the season ending early because of the Covid-19 outbreak.

It is the first time Barrow AFC has been promoted to the Football League since 1972.

Councillor Ann Thomson, Barrow Borough Council leader, said: “We wanted to find a way to congratulate the football team on its promotion and to show that everyone in the town is behind them.

“The way the club has involved the whole community during what has been a historic season has been wonderful to see and has resulted in a fantastic feel-good factor.

“It is also especially poignant to me because my dad played professionally for them when they were in the league.

“The emblem will certainly stand out in the gardens and we hope it goes some way to showing everyone just how proud we all are of this wonderful achievement.”

The Barrow AFC emblem is safely secured with two posts and it is three feet in width and four feet in height.
