A MAN accused of making illegal demands for money to an elderly north Cumbria householder is due to stand trial later this year.
Levi John Michael Lowther, 23, faces two charges.
Both allege that Lowther committed fraud by making two false representations, which he “knew to be untrue or misleading”, to an 83-year-old man on two separate dates during 2018.
These charges allege that on both April 3 and April 7, Lowther made a demand for money from the pensioner at his home address in Brampton.
When he appeared at Carlisle Crown Court today (MON), Lowther, of Hospital Road, Annan, pleaded not to both charges when they were put to him by a clerk.
A timetable for the progression of the case was outlined by the lawyers in the case.
Lowther is due to stand trial in front of a jury at the crown court in the week of October 26. It is estimated that hearing will last three to four days.
Recorder David Temkin adjourned the hearing and reminded the defendant to keep in touch with his legal team and in due court to provide a statement which sets out his defence to the allegations he denies.
Lowther was granted unconditional bail until his next court hearing, which will take place in October.
