Eat out to help Allerdale businesses out this summer

Cllr John Cook

Residents and visitors are being encouraged to help local hospitality businesses hit by the coronavirus pandemic – and save money – through the government’s Eat Out to Help Out Scheme.

The scheme, which starts on Monday, 3 August, is part of a package of measures announced by the government to help businesses.

Any diner eating in a participating restaurant can save 50% on the cost of their bill for food or non-alcoholic drinks, up to a value of £10 per person. The initiative is available every Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday during August.

Many local businesses have already signed up to the scheme and Allerdale Borough Council has set up a special page on its Visit Allerdale website to help people find their favourite local restaurant. The page includes quick links to businesses within five miles of the centre of each town in Allerdale, as well as a link to allow users to search by postcode for pubs and restaurants in other areas. The page can be found at: https://visitallerdale.co.uk/things-to-do/plan-your-trip/

Cllr John Cook, Executive member with responsibility for tourism, said: “This is a great scheme from the government and I’m really pleased to see so many local pubs and restaurants have registered with it.

“I hope it helps them get back on their feet after the lockdown and local residents and visitors make use of the offer. It’s great that we can do our bit to help businesses by promoting it through our website.”

More details for businesses on the registration process, and how to get promotional materials for the scheme, can be found on the council’s website: https://www.allerdale.gov.uk/en/coronavirus/reopening-guidance/

This page also includes other key advice for businesses on how to reopen safely as the coronavrius pandemic lockdown eases.
