Cumbria police have asked for dog owners to be aware of the impact of leaving their animal in a hot car.
Officers from Allerdale police were called out in Keswick yesterday after a dog was spotted having been left in a vehicle.
They said: “The dog was left in the boot of the vehicle close to an hour. The temperature at the time was 26 degrees.
“There is no acceptable excuse to leave your dog in your vehicle on a hot day.
“Officers located the owner of the vehicle and got him to open it up shortly after arriving at scene.
“The dog was safe and well, and the owner was given strong words of advice and will be dealt under the Animal Welfare Act.”
Allerdale Police said if anyone sees a dog left in a hot vehicle, people should call 101.
