POLICE are investigating an incident of arson on Dowbeck Road in Carlisle.

Police and Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service were contacted at around 11pm Wednesday evening (12 August) to a report of a car being set alight.

A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “A red Seat Leon is believed to have been deliberately set alight.

“A 17-year-old was arrested on suspicion of arson, he has now been released under investigation.

“Police would like to speak to anybody with information surrounding the incident including CCTV, dashcam footage and ‘Ring’ doorbells in the area.

“CCTV has shown a man described as being in his early 20s, of slim build, approximately 5ft 8in tall and was wearing a black scarf, a dark hoodie with a dark top. He was seen riding a mountain bike heading from Dowbeck Road in the direction of Wigton Road at the time of the incident.”

Anyone with information is encouraged to call PC 2607 on 101, quoting incident number 249 of 12 August. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
