Police and emergency services have attended Botchergate following a report of an assault.
The call was received at 3.25pm.
A Cumbria Police spokesman said: “A woman has suffered a head injury and three arrests have been made – two men and one woman.
“Emergency services remain at the scene and people are asked to avoid the area.”
An air ambulance was also called the the incident.
