Mental health, speeding and tourism dominate the discussion on MP’s summer surgery tour

Local MP Tim Farron has thanked local residents who attended his recent summer surgery tour.

Tim visited 36 towns and villages across the South Lakes to listen to the issues most affecting local people.

High on the list of issues raised was the lack of mental health support, especially for young people, speeding through local villages and the need to support local jobs in the tourism industry that have been put at risk by COVID-19.

Tim said: “I’m massively grateful to everyone who came to see me on my summer tour last week – especially those who braved the Cumbrian summer weather to do so!

“The best bit about my job is finding out the issues that matter most to local people, taking action on them and getting things done – and I’m proud that me and my team have completed over 7,000 cases for local people since the beginning of lockdown back in March.

“I look forward to cracking on with trying to tackle the broad range of issues raised last week.

“In particular I’ll be focusing on working with local councils to see how we can reduce speeding, working with our local health bosses to improve mental health services and working with Cumbria Tourism to lobby the Government for more support to protect jobs and businesses in the hospitality and tourism trade.”
