Sponsored Wild Swim for the Homeless this Winter

Manna House is asking people to fundraise with a sponsored wild swim this winter.

MANNA House, Kendal’s homeless prevention service, has launched a Sponsored Wild Swim to raise money for their work in the community. They are calling on the public to challenge themselves, from a paddle to a swim, to raise much needed charity funds.

It’s to replace Manna House’s usual annual sponsored Big Swim which normally takes place in the Kendal Leisure Centre. Because of COVID measures, the charity hopes people will try wild swimming in their own time, in their own way, and with the highest regard for personal safety.

Manna House say they’ve continued to support the vulnerable adults of South Lakeland, in spite of all the challenges the pandemic has brought. Examples they give are working hard to ensure people had food, advice and regular contact for support during the lockdown.

Since opening its doors in July, as restrictions eased, and following advice, the charity is still providing a warm welcome and compassion to those in need.

Penny Severn invites people to wild swim for Manna House – from a paddle to a lap.

Manna House Outreach and Development Officer, Penny Severn said: “Vulnerable members of our community were relieved to be able to be here again. We could really see the toll isolation and worry had taken on people over the lockdown. It’s been great to provide space for people to get their worries off their chest and to feel more confident again.

“This year we have missed out on most of our fundraising events because of COVID, so we really hope the sponsored Wild Swim will help bring in essential funds.”

Manna House is asking people to take up the challenge between now and the end of February 2021.

Further information, sponsorship packs with tips and hints and a free swim cap is available by emailing [email protected] or calling 01539 725534.
