Improvement work at Sellafield station has transformed the customer toilets – providing a modern, up-to-date facility for passengers.

The new toilets, which are free to use, are now open to the public and have been fully refurbished; with improved tiling, flooring, toilets, sinks and new hand dryers.

Jane Murray, Station Manager at Northern, said: “We are working hard with our colleagues at Network Rail to make our stations better for customers. Improvements like these at Sellafield are essential in delivering our long-term strategy for the rail network.

“We took advantage of lower passenger numbers to carry out this work, as well as many other station improvements and I’d like to thank everyone involved for completing the work safely during this difficult time, which has meant an added layer of complexity.

“I am confident that these enhanced facilities will be welcomed by our customers. We are really pleased to see that the upgrade has been completed to such a high standard. It’s a real transformation – as you can see from the before and after photos.”

The project was carried out by Northern and Network Rail who are working together to improve stations across the north of England.

Karen Hornby, North West Head of Performance and Customer Relations at Network Rail said: “Sellafield station, on the picturesque Cumbrian coast, is strategically important for the economy of West Cumbria.

“This is why we were delighted to work in partnership with Northern to improve the station’s facilities, so that workers and day trippers – the lifeblood of our railway – can travel with confidence.”
