Denise Williams, Senior Hospice Nurse

For over ten years Hospice at Home West Cumbria has held Light up a Life services across the county for people to come together and remember their loved ones.

This year, whilst the charity is unable to hold the services in the usual way, it is inviting people to join their virtual service on Sunday 13th December at 10:00am through their website. The service will be accessible throughout the rest of December so people can watch it again if they wish.

A limited number of DVD’s will be produced for supporters who are unable to access the service online and these can be requested by contacting Hospice at Home West Cumbria directly.

Stella Walsh, from Hospice at Home West Cumbria said: “Our Light up a Life service is for everyone, not just those who have received our care. This year more than ever we will be thinking of the loved ones we have lost, and the many families who have endured the heartbreak of losing someone in the more recent months.

“We know how important Light up a Life is for many people and we hope that our virtual service provides some comfort to those who need it.”

The service which has been recorded in St Michaels Church in Workington, and in contributors own homes, will include readings from hospice staff and volunteers, choir performances from Seaton Junior School Choir, Victoria Junior School Choir, The Castlegate Singers and Phoenix Singers, with recordings also included from Whitehaven Male Voice Choir. There will be moments of reflection and the switching on of the hospice Christmas tree lights to mark the dedications made in memory of loved ones. Dedications can be made via an online Book of Lights available on the charity’s website or by requesting a dedication form.

Stella added “We would like to thank everyone who has been involved and given their time to be part of this virtual service, we are so glad we were able to have many of our regular Light up a Life supporters involved and we are truly grateful for their support.”

To make an online dedication please visit www.hospiceathomewestcumbria.org.uk or email [email protected] to request a dedication form or DVD of the service.
