People can find out more about plans to improve the water quality of the River Eden in Appleby at a drop-in session next week.
United Utilities is planning improvements to the storm overflow at the junction of Holme Street and Chapel Street.
The proposed project includes replacing the existing storm overflow chamber with a larger storage tank and upsizing part of the sewer network to provide additional capacity.
United Utilities said the scheme would increase storm water storage capacity and enhance the local sewer network, helping the system cope more effectively during periods of heavy rainfall.
The company added that the improvements would help reduce the number of times the storm overflow operates during heavy rainfall, supporting ongoing efforts to improve water quality in the River Eden.
Temporary road closures and traffic management measures will be needed while work is carried out.
A drop-in event will take place on Wednesday, August 5, in The Bennett Room at Appleby Hub between 3.30pm and 6.30pm for residents to find out more.
Visitors will have the opportunity to meet members of the project team, view the plans and ask questions about the proposed project.
