South Lakeland District Council (SLDC) is offering free car parking on its pay and display car parks and the Westmorland Shopping Centre Car Park on the remaining Sundays in December in the run-up to Christmas.

The free Sunday parking offer will apply on the following dates:

  • Sunday, 6 December 2020
  • Sunday, 13 December 2020
  • Sunday, 20 December 2020

The offer applies to all pay and display car parks operated by SLDC in the district, including the Westmorland Shopping Centre Car Park, with the specific exceptions of the Brewery Arts Centre pay and display car park in Kendal and Miller Bridge car park at Ambleside.

No contract permit-holder only car parks are included in the offer.

Councillor Robin Ashcroft, Portfolio Holder for Economy, Culture and Leisure, said: “We make this offer every year to support the wonderful, diverse and unique shops in our towns and villages in the run-up to Christmas.

“This year has brought hitherto unthinkable challenges to our high streets but retailers and other businesses have met those challenges impressively, working so hard to operate in a safe, Covid-secure way.

“As lockdown is lifted and we move into Tier 2, we are encouraging everybody to ‘Think Local’ with their Christmas shopping, but also ask that shoppers follow government rules and guidance on staying safe – wearing face coverings in shops, other amenities and in busy areas, washing hands and staying socially distanced.”
