Free parking after 4pm will be offered on late-night shopping dates in some car parks run by South Lakeland District Council in towns across the district.
The offer to support local traders comes following discussions with business representatives.
It means that all SLDC-operated open air car parks will be free to use from 4pm to coincide with the Thursday late-night shopping on 10 and 17 December in towns including Kendal, Ulverston and Windermere, while the offer applies to the Friday late-night shopping in Kirkby Lonsdale on 11 and 18 December.
The offer applies to pay and display car parks operated by SLDC.
However, it does not include Westmorland Shopping Centre multi-storey, the Brewery Arts Centre car park and the parish church car park in Kendal and Miller Bridge car park at Ambleside.
The late-night shopping free parking is in addition to the previously announced free Sunday parking offer on SLDC-operated car parks.
Councillor Robin Ashcroft, portfolio holder for economy, culture and leisure, said: “We are encouraging everybody to Think Local with their Christmas shopping, but also ask that shoppers follow government rules and guidance on staying safe – wearing face coverings in shops, other amenities and in busy areas, washing hands and staying socially distanced.’’
