Carlisle City Council has put in place a range of safety measures to ensure Carlisle is a safe place to shop and visit.
In addition to hand sanitising points, the council has also installed new signage and floor markings promoting the government’s Hands, Face and Space messages.
Staff have also been employed to offer support and advice.
This includes a new COVID marshal and enforcement officer.
They have recently been in the city centre handing out Tier 2 guidance leaflets.
Councillor Paul Nedved, portfolio holder for economy, enterprise and housing, said: “By putting in place the various safety measures we’ve ensured that Carlisle is a safe place to shop and visit.
“We urge visitors to support local businesses and before you make the journey, check websites to see when businesses are opening and what Covid-19 safety measures they’ve put in place.
“There are still restrictions in place designed to protect people from infection. Customers are urged to stay alert and keep safe. Please follow safe distancing measures and look out for signage.”
We are also asking people to be aware of all the latest public safety messages.
- Do not leave home if you or anyone in your household has symptoms.
- Maintain social distancing at all times.
- Wear face coverings in enclosed public spaces where social distancing isn’t possible including public transport.
- If possible, use hand sanitiser or handwashing facilities when entering premises (to reduce the risk of transmission by touching products while browsing).
- Keep contact to a minimum and try to use contactless payments if available.
- Some premises will need to limit the number of customers.
The COVID marshal and associated safety promotion has been supported by Government funding provided to Carlisle City Council to support compliance and enforcement of Covid-19 regulations.
Carlisle and the rest of Cumbria have been placed into Tier 2 of the local coronavirus restrictions.
