Staff at Lakes & Dales Co-op stores aim to raise £200,000 for two children’s hospices in 2021.

The supermarket, which has branches in Keswick, Lazonby and Shap, has named Jigsaw, Cumbria’s Children’s Hospice in Carlisle, and St Oswald’s Children’s Hospice in Newcastle as its charity partners.

Staff are already planning in-store, virtual and sporting challenges to support the charities.

John Brodie, the chief executive of the Lakes and Dales Co-op parent company Scotmid Co-op, said: “There are a lot of plans already in the pipeline, and despite the challenging times we all find ourselves in, we look forward to talking to members, customers and staff about how they can help us to raise as much money as possible for children’s hospices.”

Eleanor Viney, Jigsaw’s fundraising manager, said: “The vital money raised during the partnership will help Jigsaw to continue to offer short respite breaks to children and young adults with life limiting illnesses, with families knowing their child is in safe, specialist hands.”
