Christmas dinners delivered to elderly

Gary Wilson from Inn on the Lake delivering Xmas meals to Ullswater Valley residents

Over 55 Christmas lunches were prepared, cooked and delivered to the community of Glenridding and Patterdale yesterday afternoon  after Inn on the Lake hotel and several guesthouses from the two villages joined forces to spread some Christmas cheer.

Normally, the elderly community from the Ullswater valley are invited to the Inn on the Lake for a festive lunch in the run-up to Christmas, but because this was not possible for those who are at high-risk or shielding, the meals were brought to them.

On the menu was a roast turkey dinner with all the trimmings and a cracker provided by the hotel.

Chocolates and prosecco were also delivered to the vulnerable which were provided by the local parish council.

The Inn on the Lake hotel provided the food which was prepared by the head chef, James Watt, and general manager, Gary Wilson.

Gary said: “It was a pleasure to be able to provide a small bit of festive cheer to the local community.

“After chatting to Rob, from Barco House in Patterdale, last week we decided that we needed to do something for the older community and ensure they had a decent Christmas dinner, which some may not get the opportunity to enjoy this year.

“It was a great success and I’d like to thank the local residents who drove round the area distributing the meals.”
