Organisations can apply for up to £2,500 to help projects which support people with mental health issues which may have arisen since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.

The cash is available from the police and crime commissioner’s property fund.

Crime commissioner Peter McCall said: “The consequences of living through the COVID-19 crisis for some people is considerable, which is why we are using the property fund, that reinvests money seized from criminal activity, to support local projects aimed at helping those who are experiencing mental health issues due to the pandemic.

“Helping to provide opportunities for local groups, charities and voluntary groups that support people with mental health problems can only be a good thing.

“For some, the stress of the COVID-19 pandemic has brought with it a negative impact on relationships, wellbeing and mental health and we need to create supportive programmes and make access to support services easier for anyone who needs it.

“For example, we are supporting early intervention programmes that support the reduction in the risk of offending, reoffending and victimisation due to mental health issues.

“Also, projects that work with groups such as young people, elderly, those with a disability, ethnic minority groups and other excluded communities, to provide access to resources that support mental health problems that may have arisen since the start of the pandemic.

“If you think you can create additional opportunities in your communities that support people experiencing problems with mental health, I urge you to get in touch and look at the property fund criteria.”

The commissioner will also welcome applications not linked to mental health.

The closing date is 5pm on February 28.
