A woman has been sentenced by a judge for having child sex abuse images and also sending on a WhatsApp video of her engaging in a lewd act with her dog.
Kelly Louise Agnew’s crimes surfaced when police visited her home last January, seizing two devices containing 11 illegal still and moving images of children, some aged just one.
Carlisle Crown Court heard Agnew swiftly deleted all the images, which had been sent to her, and hadn’t opened three pictures classed in category A – the most serious.
But the 39-year-old had filmed herself engaged in a sex act with her pet dog before sending the footage to an unidentified person on WhatsApp.
“She said she didn’t know why she had done it but it was likely she had been in drink,” said Brendan Burke, prosecuting.
“In interview she made full and frank admissions, going past, perhaps, what was ever discoverable by the police.
Agnew, previously of Borland Avenue, Carlisle, and now of Merrick Terrace, Portpatrick, admitted making indecent photographs of children, publishing an obscene article and also possessing extreme pornographic images.
Agnew was described as being genuinely sorry for offences said to have been committed amid prolonged and undiagnosed and untreated depression, and was keen to engage with professionals to tackle mental health issues.
Recorder Philip Grundy imposed a two-year community order comprising a rehabilitation requirement.
“I can see your whole life has imploded: your work, your family and friends, albeit they are supportive,” the judge told Agnew.
“You have relocated away from this area… but it has persisted in the vitriol and abuse and hate that you have received, which is a constant reminder to you as to what you did.”
Recorder Grundy concluded: “This court hopes that the help being given to you will not only punish you but will result in you never ever being before the court again.”
Agnew must sign the sex offenders’ register for five years, and comply with a strict sexual harm prevention order.
