A team of financial experts are getting together for a two-hour online advice session for the public which will hopefully bring in much-needed funds for a local charity as well as helping people invest their pounds wisely.
The idea for the online advice session comes from mortgage adviser Ian Watters and mortgage paraplanner Ewa Brzeska of Truly Independent Ltd in Carlisle, and they are hoping that the two-hour online session – between noon and 2pm on Tuesday, February 9 – will give a welcome boost to Carlisle Mencap.
Taking part in the online advice session will be Ian, Alistair Woodman, also of Truly Independent; Joanne Thomlinson, of Dodd & Co; Jack Green, of the Cumberland Building Society; and Cathy Hawks, of Brockbanks Solicitors.
Anyone can join the session for free to quiz the above experts with those taking part asking to make a donation of any size they like to the organisers which will be then passed on to Carlisle Mencap, the independently-funded charity that cares for more than 500 adults and children with learning disabilities and their families across Cumbria.

Explaining why they had decided to organise this session to help Carlisle Mencap, Ian said: “We often need some help and advice. Right now more people feel isolated and worried and are not sure who to contact.
“Carlisle Mencap undertakes a lot of vital work within the community and they more than anyone else see what the impact of stress and worry can be if left to get worse.
“A small group of local professionals have come together to offer the opportunity for an informal online “questions and answers event” designed to offer at least some help and advice financially when COVID requires us all to remain isolated.
“The panel’s background is diverse. We may not be able to answer every question, but at least we can listen and at least try to help where we can.
“If someone feels less alone, less stressed and that there is a positive way forward for them, then the event has succeeded in its purpose.”
Phil Taylor, the events and fundraising officer, said: “I met Ian and Ewa through the Network B2B group and we’ve been communicating online weekly.
“So when they said they wanted to help Carlisle Mencap we were delighted they came up with this great idea to give free advice on all things moneywise and at the same time give our funds a vital boost.
“We are grateful to all the experts for giving up their time for this online session.”
