A persistent nuisance has been given a “wrap” on the knuckles by a judge for breaching a strict court order — by going into Greggs for something to eat.
Heavily-convicted Ryan Crellin, who has more than 100 crimes to his name, was served with a Criminal Behaviour Order by magistrates in April last year.
This bans him from entering any premises affiliated to the Workington Shopwatch scheme.
But on September 6, a town centre police community support officer spotted 42-year-old Crellin leaving the Greggs outlet on Campbell-Savours Way in Washington Square.
He was spoken to and admitted going in there with his father.
“To get something to eat,” his barrister, Anthony Parkinson, explained at Carlisle Crown Court today.
Crellin, of Harcourt Street, Workington, admitted breaching the order and also flouting a conditional discharge imposed in August for a previous order breach and stealing perfume from Debenhams on Valentine’s Day.
Recorder Philip Grundy told Crellin of his Greggs gaffe: “You know you shouldn’t have been in there.”
But, imposing a 12-month community order, a drug rehabilitation requirement and ordering other rehabilitative work, Recorder Grundy added: “There is a chink of light at the end of the tunnel.
“This is probably the last chance any court will give you.
“You have to understand it is not difficult to lock you up. You are more of a nuisance than anything so far as this court is concerned.”
Crellin’s order runs until April 2022.
