A man was flown to hospital in a critical condition after falling 30 metres on a Lake District scramble.
Wasdale Mountain Rescue were called out at 8.37am on Tuesday after Cumbria Police received a report from two members of the public stating that a male had fallen from Broad Stand, on Scafell.
The walkers were unable to reach the casualty due to the terrain and the need for phone signal to speak with mountain rescue – but two climbers were able to descend and provide initial assistance.
Coastguard attended and winched the casualty into the aircraft and landed next to Helimed 58, where doctors carried out further medical procedures due to his critical condition.
He was then transferred to Helimed 58 for rapid transport to Royal Preston Hospital.
A second person was also stuck on Broad Stand, so Duddon & Furness MRT were requested to assist them.
Meanwhile, the two climbers helped the injured man’s friend off Broad Stand.
Three mountain rescue team members who had ascended on foot then took care of the friend and escorted him to the valley.
The incident lasted four hours and 48 minutes and involved 17 team members.
