A new chairman has been appointed to Sellafield Ltd.
Tony Maggs will begin his three-year term on May 3, replacing the current Sellafield Ltd chair Lorraine Baldry who has led the Sellafield Ltd board since May 2018.
Mr Maggs will report directly to Nuclear Decommissioning Authority chief executive officer David Peattie.
Mr Peattie said: “I am delighted that Tony has agreed to be the next chairman of the Sellafield Ltd board.
“Tony brings a huge breadth of leadership experience and his insight on major infrastructure projects and the energy sector will be invaluable to Sellafield.
“I look forward to working with him and know he will have a significant impact on Sellafield Ltd.”
Sellafield Ltd chief executive officer Martin Chown said: “I’m very pleased to welcome Tony as our new chairman.
“Tony has a good appreciation of the Sellafield site, and understanding of the progress we are making. Together, we share the same passion for our work, employees and local communities.”
Mr Maggs has 30 years’ experience across the public and private sector.
He was chair of Crossrail, engaged in 2019 to oversee the integration phase of the project.
Mr Maggs held several senior roles at BP and as head of technology was responsible for the organisation’s central project and engineering functions and R&D.
He co-founded the BP Projects Academy, building a cohort of leaders to maximise the success of the organisation’s global projects, which later became the inspiration for the Government’s Major Projects Leadership Academy.
More recently, he was chief executive of the Infrastructure and Projects Authority.
Mr Maggs said: “Being appointed to the role of chairman at Sellafield Ltd is an honour and a privilege. The ongoing work to clean-up and decommission the Sellafield site is of national importance and the opportunities are huge.
